Snowbird – ★☆☆☆☆ Campaign

Snowbird Print Advert

How great!?

A little bit about – Snowbird is a ski resort in the US known for its difficult slopes. Essentially, a visitor to the resort rated them 1 out of 5 stars due to the difficulty of the slopes.

There are a couple amazing parts to this ad. Firstly, it’s so super simple and too the point. The slopes (i.e. the brands main offering) and the snow are clearly the heroes of the ad.

Secondly, they’ve taken the negative comment from a customer and completely turned it on it’s head. By turning that negativity into a challenge Snowbird managed to actually show-off one of their key differentiators. They’re known for being a tough mountain.

FInally, who is this client!? I’d love to work with them! Bravo for having the balls to do this.

Can you think of any other print ads that have turned negativity on it’s head?

Sound of Power Speakers

How cool are these? Seriously!

Speaker company SOP, has turned classical busts on its (their?) head(s?), by creating some of our modern day socio-political icons in busts – with speakers in their heads, yes, speakers in their heads.

The current range includes Donald Trump AKA Donald the Great and Pablo Escobar AKA Uncle Pablo. Previous releases include Margaret Thatcher AKA Maggie, Kim Jong-Un AKA Kim Sunshine and Vladimir Putin, AKA St. Vladimir.

Each speaker serves as an individual bluetooth speaker, but the entire set can be combined to create a fully surround sound experience.
SOP

You’re looking at 2220 Euro for one of these creations, making it a rather expensive bluetooth speaker. Probably worth it!

Jesus and His Marketing Team

Jesus and His Marketing Team

I think is is probably the best self-promo ad I’ve seen (so far).

1one Production takes you behind the scenes of one of the most memorable brand stunts ever. This self-promo shows how 1one’s expertise in stunts helped one of the world’s biggest brands to truly stand out.

While this is quite a bold, funny claim, this is what I like so much about this self-promo – it speaks directly to a core offering the agency makes.

Can you think of any other great agency self-promo ads? Let me know in the comments.

Sweet Rides

Lately I’ve been fixated on finding the best designed, most useful bicycles I can find. From super tech-savy to beautifully designed, these bicycles are either really useful or just plain awesome to look at.

1) The first on the list is least complicated of them, the Trophy Bike.

Designed by Rapt Studio, a design agency specialising in Art Direction, Branding and all things design. They teamed up with Michael Pfaltzgraff, who’s designed a whole bunch of Tour de France bikes for Trek, as well as worked Damien Hirst, Kaws and Barry McGee. Basically, these guys have pedigree when it comes to designing bicycles.

This bike is definitely the prettiest to look at on this list, with its hipster-esque wooden handle bars and seat, it just looks like something that belongs up on the wall, a piece of art.

2) This ride is halfway between the first one’s beautiful design and the last one’s tech focus. Merge, was a submission by design agency Pensa into the Bike Design Project.

This bike is awesome. It has front and back lights for night riding as well as a cellphone charger and a pull-out storage system which slides in and out of the centre tube of the bike.

3) Last on the list is certainly the most ambitious of all the bikes, as well as being the most tech-heavy. Vanhawks Valour bike  is the worlds first connected bicycle. It can track your riding performance and suggest new routes, as well as help you out with blind spots.

You can sync your mobile device to the bike to track your performance, using metrics like speed, distance travelled, calories burnt and your best ride times. The bike, which was originally a Kickstarter project, has been officially funded and we should hopefully be seeing out the streets pretty soon.

Everything You Buy Is Rubbish

rotation

How fracking awesome are these shoes. Not only are the shoes really, really cool, but the project itself makes you think about how we use, abuse and waste.

This Project is about the out of sight and out of mind legacy of the modern consumer. Basically, shoes are no longer made to last, and mass produced in larger quantities all the time.

After you’re ‘done’ with your shoes, they’re basically disposable rubbish that may last longer than you will! Essentially we’re leaving behind a legacy of rubbish, one which is not so pretty for the loved ones we’ll eventually leave behind.

The project is targeted at plastic pollution specifically and aims to create something useful out of our waste. What these guys (Charles Duffy, William Gubbins and Billy Turvey) did is create a pair of shoes made solely (get it!) out of discarded plastic, brilliant.

Find out more about the project and its creators here.

Stoyn Ice-Cream

How rad are these!

An ambient advertising agency in Russia, called Stoyn, has created these super cool ice-creams, all of which are in the shape of recognisable pop culture idols.

From Daffy to Darth Vader, there’s really no limit, and they look awesome.

Pixel Trek

This one is definitely for the geeks out there… Bet you’ve never seen the Enterprise like this before?

Pixel Trek is a new online game where users can navigate the U.S.S. Enterprise in a way they could never before (not that they actually could).

This 8-Bit game allows players to see a different side of the vessel, even places which they’ve never seen before. This is certainly going to cause a few nerdgasms.

Graffiti General

This project is just too cool.

Les Magasins Generaux in Paris is an iconic graffiti playground.

The building is set to become the head office of an advertising agency, so to remember the building for what it was, the agency created Graffiti General.

6 Months of 3D modelling produced the largest real building ever visualised in WebGL – 20 000 square metres.

The project is not only a content gallery of the artwork inside the building but also a place where viewers can create their own artwork in this historic place.

Not only is this project super cool, it was even a Webby winner for best photography website.
